FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. It is the method by which you can transfer files from your PC to your website.
First you will require an FTP application. There are many available freely for nearly every modern computer platform - see our frequently asked questions page for more information. An FTP application allows you to view files on a remote computer (eg the server your domain is hosted on) and copy, move and rename them as if they were on your own computer. FTP applications are usually fairly small and easy to download and install.
Once you have installed an FTP application you should use the information provided when we set up your domain.
FTP server: yourdomain.com user/account name: your username password: your password
Additional Settings:
Port number: 21 Path: /
You should always use your main username and password for your domain as other users may not have access to files outside their users profiles.
Once connected, you should see a list of files and folders. To update your web pages you should upload files to a folder called either 'www' or 'httpdocs'.
If you always want to go to this directory when you connect, try and set thepath in your FTP application as shown above.
